Director Statement

We’ve all been there, standing at the altar until finally we can’t take it anymore and we just have to say “I Don’t”. Well, perhaps we haven’t all been a runaway bride, but at some point every person has felt like their life was hanging on the edge of a precipice. I remember feeling that way in the final year of my Bachelor’s Degree. I was studying Chemistry and I could see my future laid out ahead of me, and I felt trapped. This is not what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I had to make a decision then or I would regret it forever. So I did. And here I am now, a filmmaker.

It can be terrifying, feeling like your life is about to spiral out of your control. Throughout your twenties you are desperately searching for identity and self-worth, all while struggling under the pressures coming from society, from religion, from family, and even from your peers. Both in the media and in real life we are painted a picture of what a proper course in life should be, especially as a woman, but does that picture really hold up in modern times? With All I Need I wanted to channel that crushing anxiety and desperate desire to find your path in life, into the age old tradition of a wedding ceremony. I couldn’t think of a better mix of family pressure, societal expectation, and established tradition.

When audiences watch this film I hope they feel freedom; freedom to be a mess, freedom to accept that you don’t need to have it all figured out. It’s never too late to change your path and find who you are truly meant to be, even if you have to break a few things along the way.
